Chambers is a 4 piece Mood Rock band based out of Denton, Texas. When Judson Valdez and Chase Johnson started working together in October of 2012, they were playing as backing musicians for a mutual friend’s project. After only a couple of months playing together, they quickly realized that they shared creative similarities and decided to try writing music together. Along the way of writing the songs that would eventually become Chambers first album, they recruited Johnson’s sister Piper, stole their sound engineer, Daniel Pelletier, away to play bass to round out the band and became Chambers. Early on they realized that they all had strong but very different voices and instead of trying to conform their different styles to each other, made it into their strength. What has come out of this process is a collection of songs that features 3 different singers, complex arrangements of harmonies, and a variety of instruments and styles.

Founder of agricultural community dies

On this day in 1965, Helen Kerr Thompson, founder of an agricultural community in Trinity County, died. Her father, John Steele Kerr, had been a pioneer horticulturist in Texas. Helen, born about 1875, grew up in Sherman and married J. Lewis Thompson. They raised a family in Houston, but after World War I, Helen planned new endeavors when her husband gave her 12,000 acres of his Trinity County forest land. During the 1920s she established a model agricultural community and implemented a system that relied on crop rotation, cooperative marketing, and modern farm homes.

Houston Academy chartered

On this day in 1856, the Houston Academy, a prominent antebellum school, was chartered. Its incorporators included Houston civic leaders William Marsh Rice, Peter W. Gray, Cornelius Ennis, and Thomas W. House. A building plan was developed by 1857, and the school opened in 1858. By 1859, with the help of a bequest of $5,000 from James H. Stevens and $20,000 raised by public subscription, the school occupied a two-story brick building and accommodated 400 students, with separate classrooms for boys and girls. Ashbel Smith served as superintendent.

If you enjoy this lens or find it to be useful and informative, please rate it up at the very top of the page! Denton, Texas is a Main Street City that tops a triangle formed by itself, Ft. Worth and Dallas. This area is traditionally referred to as the Golden Triangle and our largest shopping mall shares this name.Established in 1857, Denton is the county seat of Denton County, and was named for John B. Denton. John Denton was a lawyer, preacher, and a soldier. His grave is on the courthouse lawn in the center of Denton's historic downtown square. The center-piece of the downtown square is the old Denton County Courthouse which was erected in 1896 and restored in 1987. The courthouse contains a museum highlighting historic photographs and artifacts from the City's founding to the present. Denton is the proud home of two public Universities; Texas Woman's University and the University of North Texas, the 3rd largest university in the State of Texas, with a combined enrollment of approximently 40,000 students. Denton is also the home town of Grammy Award winning band Brave Combo and the Grammy Award winning 1 O'Clock Lab band as well as the former stomping grounds of UNT alumni Don Henley, Roy Orbison and Pat Boone.
